Blog of the Week : 02/27 - 03/05 2011

The Blog of the Week for the week of February 27th to March 5th, 2011 is 'GregPike.ca'. It's may be fairly evident from the title what this blog's main focus is but, don't let the personal title fool you. This space is jam packed with all things other than what Greg is up as this is far from a personal journal. Though more of a mixed bag of a blog, Greg's site has a clear focus on entertainment; everything from local celebrities to funny commercials to comic reviews to anything in between. There is an abundance of videos and pictures to keep anyone happy as they peruse Gregs site... so there's not much point sickin' around this boring place any longer with that said. Click the pic, meet Greg and prepare to be entertained!

Hillier and Reid raising a little hell...

And making those downtown Toronto Elitist Champagne socialists oh so happy:
...federal Conservative MP Scott Reid and provincial Tory MPP Randy Hillier, plan to reveal the details of their proposed constitutional amendment today at Queen's Park in Toronto. Essentially, they want to introduce private members' bills in their respective legislatures that would, if passed, insert property rights into the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

"This is a very unique amendment," Hillier said Wednesday. "It would provide substantive protection for everybody who owns property."

Reid echoed the sentiment: "This is way of correcting a very serious wrong."(link)

Let's see what excuses the Liberals, NDP and Bloc manage to dream up to oppose this.

Kim Jong II is a Lazy, Fat, Smelly, Lying, Tyrant... and his sunglasses suck.

The North’s military warned that it would fire at South Korean border towns if Seoul continued to allow activists to launch propaganda leaflets toward the communist country, ...

“South Korea’s traitor puppet regime must recognize the seriousness of the situation and immediately stop anti-(North Korea) psychological warfare,” the KCNA said.(link)
Feels good to live in Country where "Proganda" can be said without fear of reprisals...

Human Rights Tribunals notwithstanding.

Elections Canada Corruption

Knows No Bounds.

I won't speculate on what the details of these charges are, but if they continue to be about the legendary "in-and-out" affair, I wonder so very VERY much why the numbers of Opposition MPs that used similar accounting procedures for years are not receiving the same levels of scrutiny.

I say fight this. Fight it in court. Fight it in the media. Fight, Fight, Fight.

Blog of the Week : 02/20 - 02/26 2011

The Blog of the Week for the week of February 20th to the 26th, 2011 is 'Random thoughts...'. This is a personal space from blogger Lisa who is a self professed "community volunteer, book lover, foodie and salt beef junkie".  Before blogging became political, before each space developed any clear topic for that matter, we had Web Logs; online journals where people expressed their daily lives and happenings freely to the world. Lisa's space is much like that with her posts being filled with personal experiences, which don't necessary have any political or social commentary attached. Most of the posts are just about her, the things she likes and what's she's been up to. In selecting this blog this week, I'm paying homage to not only a great site but, perhaps to the blogging of old as well. And don't worry, those who crave the political commentary will find snippets of such throughout as well. It truly is a grab bag of information written by another dedicated Newfoundland and Labrador blogger and is well worth the visit. So go. Like now. Click the pic!

Blog of the Week : 02/13 - 02/19 2011

The Blog of the Week for the week of February 13th to the 19th, 2011 is 'Digital Pics'; a photo blog from the mind (or better yet, eye) of Eric Bartlett who resides in St. John's. The first thing that jumps out at me with this space (well the 2nd thing; it's impossible to not notice the pictures first) is the frequency of posts found here. It's a near daily occurrence, with each post displaying his talent to beautifully capture whatever subject he focuses on. From browsing, you quickly realize that these subjects can be just about anything but, there is a main focus on landscapes and scenery of our beautiful province. It's been a while since we've featured a photo blog here and with so many of these type listed it's about time we did again so, enough with the words. It's time to focus on some pictures. Go visit Erics blog!

Multicultural Silence

PARIS — French President Nicolas Sarkozy declared Thursday that multiculturalism had failed, joining a growing number of world leaders or former leaders who have condemned it.

“My answer is clearly yes, it is a failure..."

...British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Australia’s ex-prime minister John Howard and Spanish ex-premier Jose Maria Aznar have also recently said multicultural policies have not successfully integrated immigrants.(link)
Someone is noticeably absent in this chorus of dissent in the West: Guess Who?

Harper's Laurier Style Compromise

The dream of reviving les Nordiques as a proud Canadian NHL franchise is taking a big step forward as Quebec City and the government of Quebec will split the cost of a new arena 50-50, cutting out the federal Tories in a region where they hold six seats.

(...)

The party has carved out a small base of support in the region under Prime Minister Stephen Harper but polls show that could shrink considerably if Ottawa refuses to fund the arena.(link)
I find that highly unlikely. If anything this couldn't have worked out better for the federal Tories.

The arena will be built - which means there's no blame on Harper for not coughing up the cash. That was, in my opinion, the real concern in Quebec.

I think, if anything, Laurier would approve. Harper has chosen a solution which in the end will satisfy neither French or English Canada: don't fund anyone's sports stadiums...

What an Obamanation

President Obama's budget director Jack Lew in a Sunday opinion piece outlined some off the “tough choices” Obama is willing to make to cut spending in his 2012 budget request due out on Feb. 14.
... In total, the $775 million in detailed cuts fall far short of demands by congressional Republicans and will do little toward tackling the deficit, which is estimated to be $1.5 trillion this year by the Congressional Budget Office. The cuts are in addition to a five-year spending freeze which the administration says will save $400 billion over the next decade.(link)

I want to cry, but this is just so silly I can't help but laugh. Obama has just slapped the Republicans and any of his critics in the face...

No wait he didn't slap them - he pooped on their faces and started dancing an Irish Jig over them in defiance...

Ya that visual is a lot more like it...

After all of Obama's conversion rhetoric... He was a changed man we were told... HE WAS EVEN READING A REAGAN MEMOIR!... He would even make cuts in the size of government would you believe!...

And what does he do?

He proposes a huge, massive, jaw dropping 0.02% cut in spending.

Sorry that's a 0.02% cut on top of the 1% a year reduction in future spending!

Obama must've had a former career as a comedian, if not he should think about it!

Blog of the Week : 02/06 - 02/12 2011

The Blog of the Week for the week of February 6th to the 12th, 2011 is 'Planting Dandelions'; a web space from the mind of Kyran Pittman, who is an author (and a proud Contributing Editor of Good Housekeeping magazine) from this province but, now living in the US. The blog is quite aesthetically pleasing with it's lovely design and is filled with with personal posts on being a writer, a mother, a wife and everything in between or beyond. The posts are very well written (not surprisingly considering her profession) making this site one well worth the visit... which you should do right now. Click the pic and follow Kyran as she shares her stories with us.

Newbies and News

Before getting into the listing of new inclusions to the blogroll, I wanted to take a moment to provide an couple updates:

Happy 5th Anniversary:
On January 31st, 2006 I posted the very first entry here and I thought it would be fun to note that this blog and the BlogRoll itself is now 5 years strong. Over the the last half decade we've been through a multitude of ups and downs and redevelopments; a true roller coaster ride for me in fact. When I started this thing way back then, I had no idea the heights it would reach, nor the community that would eventually be built. Through the years I have constantly been reminded of how incredibly wonderful this collection of minds truly is. I'm very proud of this place and the blogs which are featured within and I want to take this time to thank you all for your hard work and dedication to your own spaces within the blogosphere. Without your beautiful minds, this place would have no reason to exist.

Bloggers Choice Award
It's been a while since I last discussed the initative and I want to ensure everyone that it's still being developed. I'm currently in the process of weeding through all the blogs to decide on those which we'll be voting on. As you can imagine, with there now being 199 blogs on the roll, this continues to be a lengthy process. Having said that, my intention was to launch the initiave during the spring or summer months anyway, so things are still on target.

Newbies
My main reason for posting today was to welcome the newest blogs to our community here.  I've added 10 new ones today so be sure to browse you way over to each and say hello!
